Death toll from devastating floods in Pakistan rises to 706
The death toll from devastating floods and accidents caused by heavy rains in Pakistan has risen to 706. The army has stepped up relief efforts in the worst-hit areas.
PTI reported this information on Wednesday (August 20), citing relevant authorities in the country.
According to the report, in its latest update, Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said that at least 24 more people have died in the last 24 hours. This brings the total death toll since June 26 to 706. In addition, the number of injured in various accidents has increased to 965.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province has been the worst-hit, with 427 deaths reported so far.
This is followed by Punjab (164 people), Sindh (29 people), Balochistan (22 people), Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (56 people) and Islamabad Region (8 people).
Recent casualties have occurred in Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan and Peshawar districts, where continuous heavy rains and flash floods have caused widespread destruction.
